What is this?

I’m Ashby deButts, a resident physician training in NYC.

This website has two primary functions.

Firstly, it provides me a curatable space for the errant Ashby deButts web search1, not that I’m doing a lot with that right now.

Secondly, it allows me an opportunity to “learn in public” by making some of my personal notes available. Even though the only traffic I really anticipate is my own, this exercise makes me more deliberate in my research, referencing, and (attempted) clarity of writing to the imagined layman.

So, what you’ll find here is some of the notes I’ve taken through medical school and in residency, connected via inter-linking of common subjects into a web of pages. In theory there can be some emergent groupings and interesting patterns, but our mileage may vary.

What to expect

  • Mistakes and errors, hopefully with corrections. I try to be evidence-based and cite sources, but these are my notes and not a highly-vetted resource.
  • Shallow-to-deep dives into things I find interesting, like human physiology, the pathophysiology underlying disease, and modern American healthcare.
  • Erratic updates.

Footnotes
